Shopify

Shopify expertise. Commercial thinking.

I help established brands improve, redesign and develop Shopify stores with conversion, trading and customer behaviour in mind.

  1. Can a shopper see delivery cost before the basket?
  2. Do reviews sit next to the price, where the decision is made?
  3. Is the size guide one tap away on a phone?
  4. Does add to basket stay in reach as the page scrolls?

Every change needs a commercial reason.

The goal is not simply to make Shopify look different.

I combine platform delivery with experience of ecommerce trading and conversion, so changes are made because they are likely to sell more, keep more customers or save your team time. I have worked on Shopify and Shopify Plus, and on Magento and headless builds.

What I work on.

Shopify optimisation

Targeted improvements to the store you already have: product and collection pages, search and filtering, navigation, basket, speed and the path to checkout. Often the best return on a Shopify budget is not a redesign.

  • Product and collection pages
  • Search and filters
  • Navigation
  • Basket and checkout path
  • Page speed

Landing pages and theme improvements

Theme changes and reusable sections, built so your team can make the next landing page without a developer. Launch, campaign and paid-traffic pages built around what the visitor came for.

  • Theme sections
  • Launch pages
  • Campaign pages
  • Paid traffic landing pages

Redesigns and builds

When the store has genuinely outgrown its theme, a redesign planned from the commercial side first: what sells, how customers shop, what the trading calendar needs, then the design.

  • Discovery and planning
  • Information architecture
  • Theme build
  • Launch

Migration and replatforming

Moving to Shopify from another platform, planned around what must not break: URLs and redirects, product, customer and order data, integrations and search visibility.

  • Redirect mapping
  • Data migration
  • Integrations
  • Search visibility

Subscriptions

Subscription set-up and the journeys around it: how customers sign up, how they manage the subscription, and what happens at the points where they might leave.

  • Subscription apps
  • Sign-up journeys
  • Customer portal
  • Retention points

How projects work.

  1. Scope

What is being built, why, and how success will be judged. Agreed and priced in writing before work starts.

  2. Build

Work happens on an unpublished copy of your theme, never on the live store while customers are shopping.

  3. Test

Real devices, the full checkout, and the tracking, so launch day is not the first test.

  4. Launch and measure

Launched at a quiet point in your trading calendar, then measured against what was agreed at the start.

Platform work, done in-house.

At inov-8 I played a key role in moving inov-8.com to a headless architecture, and implemented Global-e to open the store to 56 countries. At Smiffys I built the user testing framework for a new Magento 2 website.

Both were in-house roles, not Blueprint Yorkshire client work.

Questions

Do you work on Shopify Plus?

Yes. Shopify and Shopify Plus are the focus of the work.

Do you only work on Shopify?

Shopify is the specialism, but I have also worked on Magento and headless commerce. That is useful if you are moving to Shopify from another platform, or deciding whether to.

Who owns the work?

You do. Everything is built in your store, on your Shopify account, and stays there.

How are projects priced?

Each project is scoped individually and priced in writing before it starts, once the work and the reason for it are agreed.
